Ancient Rome Theater
Ancient Rome Theater was a big part in Ancient Rome.They would have a play every holiday, and they celebrated over 200 holidays. First a play would be wrote and then a Rich Person would pay for the play to be put on. They thought of it as giving back to the gods. The actors would always be male. They would play both male and female characters. They would wear masks to show there emotions because people in the back of the theater would often not be able to hear or see more than the shape of the people. The masks would be quite big and got very detailed over time.
People would talk during plays. To be heard people would talk over other people. It got very noisy. So, to keep people to follow the play, they would use pantomime. This was a play with no words. they would use facial expressions, dances, hand gestures, and more. Actors were not highly respected in Ancient Rome. They got little pay. They could get on because of a bad play. If the Romans did not like the play, they would shout at the actors and even start throwing things at them. |

Art was very common in Ancient Roman times. Grand Homes and Temples had paintings of gods and goddesses. They also had frescoes, which is a kind of mural.They would last a long time without fading. People would also get their portrait carved on wooden pallets. The Romans believed that a persons spirit where in these portraits and if they where disgraced, people would scratch out their faces. Mosaics were another kind of art was used in ancient Rome. They where made of stones and marble and put together to make a picture or design. Sculptures also where very common in Ancient Rome. It was very fashionable to collect Greek Sculptures . Sculptures showed how powerful you where. If you had a sculpture with armor, it meant you where involved with the military and if it had a god sculptures, it meant you were very religious. |
