Clothing
Men- Roman men wore two garments, the tunic and the toga. The tunic was a short woolen under garment with short sleeves. As the toga was specifically meant as a public display garment, the tunic was also worn by any people within the comforts of their own homes. The tunic worn by men was made from white wool or expensive linen, while the poor would wear whatever fabric was available.
Women- Woman normally wore a tunic. It was made from two pieces of cloth sewn together near the top. This garment was pulled over the head, and with several pins or buttons it formed a dress. A belt could be worn at the waist or at the hips. Any tunic could be made of different colors and fabrics depending on the woman's popularity and wealth. Married women were required to wear the loose stola. This long sleeveless tunic was strapped at the shoulder, gathered in at the waist with the dress going down to the feet. They would also were a shawl, called a pulla, outdoors. What kind of make-up, jewelry, and perfume was depending on the fads at the time.
